Community therapy is
one of the treatments we employ where youth
and adolescents share their experiences, problems,
and solutions with others (family, advisors,
parents, friends, and colleagues). At the
end they accrue social capital and are thus
empowered to meet the challenges that arise
in their daily lives. By developing a feeling
of social acceptance, subjectively, both the
individual and collective gains competencies,
solidarity, and integration with the entire
group to promote a dignified construction
of citizenship. This construction consists
of four steps: shelter, contextualization,
problem explanation, and solving difficulties
as a group.
The ideology behind
the method is based on a belief in the potential
of the individual, while critiquing public
policy and thus, transforming reality.
